Back to How-ToWindow Tiling & App Launch Turn your keyboard into a workspace manager. Combine window tiling with application launching to arrange your screen with a single keystroke.
1
Create a tiling layer Switch to Layer 2 in HoldTap. This will be your dedicated window tiling layer. Select the 'I' key to start configuring.
2
Assign Top Half to I Choose the 'Window' action type and select 'Top Half'. Now I snaps the window to the top half — just like the Up arrow in vim navigation.
3
Map J, K, L for Left, Bottom, Right Assign 'Left Half' to J, 'Bottom Half' to K, and 'Right Half' to L. You now have a directional tiling cluster identical to your navigation layout — muscle memory transfers instantly.
4
Add app launching to the same layer Still on Layer 2, assign app launch keys alongside your tiling keys — S for Safari, T for Terminal, and so on. Now a single layer both launches apps and tiles windows: open an app, then immediately snap it into position without switching layers.
5
Activate the tiling layer Return to Layer 0. Set the Hold action of a key (e.g., Right Command) to 'Layer 2'. Holding that key gives you instant access to all your tiling shortcuts.
Pro Tip: This mirrors the vim-style navigation cluster from the Navigation Layer guide. Use the same I/J/K/L positions your fingers already know — but for window tiling instead of cursor movement.
